About Ostendo
Like the founders of Epitome, our colleagues at the noted Development-X software house have had an extensive background in the successful deployment of large scale ERP systems.
As developers, implementers and consultants, they truly understand exactly what is needed to make such applications highly effective and ensure they are totally attuned to their users’ needs and expectations.
And they have a well earned reputation for corporate systems that service large numbers of users. Such as being selected by a US software corporation with 10,000 manufacturing sites to develop their next generation product.
However – and again like us – they were also well aware that while large corporations are afforded a wide range of choice for their IT requirements, there was virtually no comparable solution that addressed the computer needs of the substantial and dynamic SME sector.
Certainly, if all a smaller company sought was basic accounting, then there were several perfectly competent software options available.
But what if the company also needed solutions for manufacturing? Or distribution? Or service operation? Or project and job costing?
In all such instances, it was very clear that users were bereft of any suitable computing option.
Thus was born Development-X’s concept of Ostendo. A concept that reflected the company’s considerable knowledge of large ERP deployments, but which also flowed from their considerable expertise in working with firms in which there may only be a single or a few users.
Pivotal to its thinking, was that Ostendo needed to offer comprehensive options for manufacturing, distribution, service and job costing. But that it needed to do this in a manner that equally ensured:
- Low cost of purchase
- Low cost of implementation
- High functionality
For many traditional IT developers, such core requirements provide an impossible design brief as it is difficult to create:
- An easy-to-use product that is powerful
- A powerful product that is easy to implement
- A low-cost product that also offers extensive functionality
With Development-X, however, such challenges were readily resolved.
In part, because all developers – including those actually writing the programs – worked with an intimate knowledge of precisely what was needed and how it had to work.
And secondly because of the latest generation development tools selected. Which ensured that all core design requirements could be meticulously met without compromising the all important trinity of high functionality, low cost and ease of use.
For the technologically inclined, such tools include the powerful Delphi development environment and the Firebird SQL RDBMS database. With the former, Development-X is a member of the prestigious world-wide Delphi developers group. While the Firebird technology provides for such things as hot-backup, transaction logging, transaction rollback, high-speed, highly reliable operation and high concurrency of transaction throughput.
As the product of this unique development platform, Ostendo delivers:
- A fully flexible configuration to suit specific requirements without software change
- A comprehensive range of key business functions that are ‘out of the box’, as opposed to being add-ons, and which powerfully meet a diverse range of user needs
- Comprehensive and highly relevant capabilities within each software module
- Reliable operation with heavy use
At the same time, Ostendo:
- Specifically and deliberately integrates with and ‘wraps around’ MYOB
- Equally intentionally leverages the benefits of MYOB as opposed to demanding its replacement
- Is straightforward enough to be easily implemented by or for smaller businesses
As such, Ostendo is the ideal IT solution for smaller business users and also a serious alternative for many larger businesses. It delivers:
- Uncompromised functionality
- An ability to grow with any business
- Low cost, reliable and powerful operation
- Tight integration with MYOB
- Optional interfaces with other accounting software
